Housing is too expensive for millions of Californians.
California Social Housing can help fix that.

More than two in five Californians spend over 30% of their income on housing.

Millions of Californians struggle to afford housing near jobs, transit, and good schools. 97%+ of California cities haven’t produced enough affordable housing. We need more housing for people at all income levels, and social housing can provide it.

What is Social Housing?

Publicly Owned Mixed-Income

Social Housing is publicly backed housing that is affordable to individuals and families of different income levels. It also avoids the problem of concentrated poverty, by creating mixed-income neighborhoods. This strategy fosters economic opportunities, while preserving affordability to low-income households in the community.

Proven

Social housing is a proven way to provide affordable housing, with successful examples in California, the rest of the United States, and abroad in places like Vienna and Singapore.

It works abroad…

More than two out of every three residents of Vienna live in social housing.

It works in the United States.

Maryland has constructed large social housing developments in the recent past.

And it will work in California.

CADA in Sacramento, while not “social housing” successfully uses the social housing’s mixed-income model.
